MIS Field Project Federal Aviation Administration Report

Oct - Dec 2021

snapshot of FAA report

As commercial space travel continues to gain popularity, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has recognized the need for research in the areas of ground support infrastructure, personnel, flight challenges, and community infrastructure when dealing with airports and spaceports. The increase in launches of commercial space vehicles presents new challenges for the safe operations of the aviation industry and other National Airspace System (NAS) users, as well as the wider public communitiy.

My project team, in partnership with the FAA, conducted research to identify the key challenges that affected the integration of airport and spaceport activities. The research focused on five specific challenges falling within the categories of challenges, personnel, ground support infrastructure, and community infrastructure.

The outcome of this research provided valuable insights into the current state of the commercial space industry and informed recommendations for the integration of airprot and spaceport operations. The findings helped the FAA and stakeholders in the industry to ensure the safe and efficient integration of these activities, with a view to supporting the growth and development of the commercial space sector.
